Mexican star Lizbeth Ovalle has made history, becoming the world’s most expensive football transfer with her move from Tigres UANL to Orlando Pride in the United States, effective August 21, 2025. The BBC reported the transfer.
Orlando Pride, a leading team in American women’s football (NWSL), secured the Mexican left midfielder from Tigres UANL in a landmark $1.5 million deal. Ovalle has signed a two-year contract with the NWSL champions, with an option for an additional year, making her the most expensive player in women’s football history.
This transfer shatters the previous record set just last month when Arsenal signed Canadian striker Olivia Smith from Liverpool for $1.3 million.
Ovalle, born in 1999, began her professional career with Tigres UANL in 2017. She departs the club as their all-time leading scorer, having netted 136 goals and provided 103 assists in 294 appearances over eight years, during which she helped secure six Liga MX Femenil titles.
For the Mexican national team, Ovalle has earned 81 caps and scored 20 goals, notably helping her country win the gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Chile.
