Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has successfully secured their record-extending 14th French Super Cup title, triumphing over rivals Olympique de Marseille in a captivating final decided by a penalty shootout. The Parisians emerged victorious with a 4-1 scoreline in the shootout, following a thrilling 2-2 draw in regular time.
The highly anticipated encounter, held at Jaber Al Stadium in Kuwait, saw PSG take an early lead. Forward Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the 13th minute, putting his team ahead.
However, Marseille mounted a strong comeback in the second half. England international Mason Greenwood converted a penalty in the 76th minute to level the score. Moments later, Marseille took the lead when a PSG player unfortunately scored an own goal, shifting the momentum in their favor.
Despite falling behind, PSG demonstrated resilience. As the clock ticked towards full time, Goncalo Ramos delivered a crucial equalizer in the 90+5th minute, forcing the match into a dramatic penalty shootout after a 2-2 stalemate.
The subsequent penalty shootout proved to be PSG’s moment to shine, largely thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. Chevalier made two crucial saves, denying Marseille’s attempts. PSG’s penalty takers – Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue – all successfully converted their shots, sealing the 4-1 victory for the French giants in the 2026 French Super Cup.
This victory marks PSG’s 14th French Super Cup triumph in history, further solidifying their dominance in the competition. It also represents their fourth consecutive win, with their last defeat in the final dating back to 2021 against Lille FC. For Olympique de Marseille, the defeat was particularly heartbreaking, as the club had been yearning for a major trophy for 14 years, leaving their players visibly emotional as they departed the field.
Following the match, PSG manager Luis Enrique acknowledged his team’s fortune in securing the win and specifically lauded goalkeeper Chevalier’s outstanding performance. On the opposing side, Marseille manager Robert De Zerbi openly conveyed his frustration, echoing the disappointment felt by his players after the hard-fought final.
