Cambodian Cycling Federation Scouts Top Talent from 2025 National Championships for Elite National Team Program

The Cambodian Cycling Federation is actively scouting promising athletes from the recently concluded 2025 National Cycling Championships. The primary objective is to identify and nurture emerging talent, particularly outstanding young competitors who achieved success at the championships, for potential inclusion in the national team. This initiative aims to provide additional training and development, ultimately preparing these athletes to represent Cambodia in future international and regional competitions.

The 2025 National Cycling Championships, a three-day event, successfully concluded on February 8th, 2026, having commenced on February 6th. The prestigious Morodok Techo National Stadium served as the primary venue for the competition. The closing ceremony was attended by distinguished figures, including Mr. Pan Sorasak, the President of the Cambodian Cycling Federation.

For this year’s national championship, the Federation introduced seven distinct event categories, designed to challenge and showcase the skills of passionate cyclists. These categories encompassed various mountain bike disciplines, featuring races of 7, 5, and 4 laps for men, and a 3-lap event for women. Additionally, road race events included demanding competitions of 10, 8, and 12 laps, primarily for male participants.

A significant change for the 2025 championships involved relocating the competition venues from various provinces to Phnom Penh. The mountain bike events were held at the scenic Phnom Basit, while the road races took place within the modern confines of the Morodok Techo National Stadium complex.

According to Mr. Nou Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian Cycling Federation, who spoke at the closing ceremony on February 8th, 2026, the strategic decision to alter the competition venues received positive feedback from the participating athletes. He highlighted that the redesigned racing routes offered excellent technical conditions, fostering a highly competitive and intense environment for all participants. Mr. Chamroeun also noted significant advancements in the athletes’ overall abilities, with several competitors managing to break previous time records. He further affirmed that the federation would meticulously review the achievements and results of all medal-winning athletes.

A dedicated committee will meticulously evaluate the performance of these triumphant athletes to select suitable candidates for further intensive training. The federation plans to work in close cooperation with the respective clubs of these successful cyclists, outlining the guidelines and principles established by both the Ministry and the Federation. This strategic recruitment drive is focused on integrating new and promising talent into the national squad, with the ultimate goal of building a formidable team ready to compete in prestigious future events such as the SEA Games and the Asian Games.

The 2025 National Cycling Championships saw a substantial turnout, with a total of 220 individuals participating. This number included delegates, technical officials, coaches, and athletes. Among the participants, 110 athletes, representing 24 different ministries and teams, competed across the various categories. Notably, six female athletes specifically participated in the women’s 3-lap mountain bike event.
