Eight Indonesian U20 Players Banned for Years After Violent On-Field Clash

The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has issued significant disciplinary actions against eight players from its Under-20 league, following a violent on-field clash that occurred last April. These players face bans from all football activities ranging from one to three years.

The incident took place during an Indonesian Under-20 Football League match between Bhayangkara FC and Dewa United, which escalated into multiple altercations.

Five players from Bhayangkara FC’s U20 squad received suspensions. Fadly Alberto, Aqilah Lissunah, and Afrizah Riqh were each handed three-year bans. Ahmad Catur received a two-year suspension, while Mufdi Iskandar was sidelined for one year. Additionally, assistant coach Muklis Hadi Ning was penalized, receiving a ban from participating in four matches.

From Dewa United’s Under-20 team, three players were also sanctioned. Reyvan Rezqi was suspended for two years, and Keysa Fawwaza and Muhammad Ridwan each received one-year bans.

The disciplinary action stems from a series of violent acts during the game. Fadly Alberto of Bhayangkara FC was notably penalized for kicking Rakha Nurkholis of Dewa United, causing him to fall. Ahmad Catur was sanctioned for striking another Dewa United player, despite the opponent attempting to offer a handshake. Aqilah Lissunah was also involved in the altercation, kicking another Dewa United player.

The clash escalated when Dewa United held a 2-1 lead. Reports suggested that Bhayangkara FC players expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating, which subsequently contributed to the eruption of multiple physical altercations both on and off the field.
