Her move to the U.S. club has garnered congratulations from friends and celebrities, including England’s Chloe Kelly, who won the Euro 2022 title and sent a professional greeting. The 26-year-old previously played for Sporting Braga in Portugal but had been without a club since February after her contract was terminated. She made only four appearances for the Portuguese club before her departure. Markovic attracts a large following on social media, largely due to her beauty. Born in Croatia, Markovic moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where she began her football career at FC Zurich before joining Grasshopper Club Zürich. She later moved to FC Braga.
