The football federations of Spain and Morocco are actively vying for the honor of hosting the final match of the FIFA World Cup 2030. This competition for the prestigious event comes as both nations prepare to co-host the tournament alongside Portugal. Amidst these competing claims, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has clarified that the official venue for the final has not yet been decided, emphasizing that an announcement will be made at an appropriate time.
As of now, FIFA has not officially designated which of the three co-hosting nations – Spain, Morocco, or Portugal – will be granted the privilege of staging the highly anticipated 2030 World Cup final. Senior officials from both the Spanish and Moroccan football federations have separately voiced their strong intentions to host the ultimate match of the tournament, scheduled to take place four years after the 2026 edition in North America.
Addressing the speculation, a FIFA spokesperson confirmed to the international news agency Efe on September 5 that the world football governing body has yet to make any final decision regarding the host city for the 2030 World Cup final. The spokesperson reiterated that the announcement of the chosen venue would be made at an appropriate juncture, emphasizing that no resolution had been reached. Furthermore, on the same date, FIFA explicitly refuted claims made by Morocco that it had already secured the rights to host the 2030 World Cup final.
Despite FIFA’s clarification, Fouzi Lakjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, expressed strong confidence during a political gathering in Morocco on September 10, asserting that Morocco is guaranteed to host the 2030 World Cup final. Lakjaa boldly stated, “The city of Benslimane will host the 2030 World Cup final. Like it or not, and if anyone has exaggerated this story, let them continue to talk. I hope Morocco will be able to host that match in Benslimane and at the Hassan II Stadium.”
Conversely, Rafael Louzan, President of the Spanish Football Federation, firmly asserted Spain’s entitlement to host the final match of the upcoming quadrennial tournament. Spain has also maintained that the host nation for the final has yet to be officially chosen. “We will all sign up for the appropriate candidate,” Louzan remarked. “It’s a bad thing that the final has not yet been clearly decided as to where it will be held. Spain, as world champions in both men’s and women’s football, should host the final match.” This statement highlights Spain’s recent triumphs and its historical standing in global football.
The FIFA World Cup 2030 is set to be a landmark event, uniquely spanning continents with Spain, Portugal, and Morocco jointly hosting matches across Europe and Africa.
