Lamine Yamal, the highly talented young star from Barcelona, has reportedly chartered a private jet to ensure his family can accompany him to the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, England. The 2026 event sees Yamal as one of the final three candidates for the coveted Best Player Award, underscoring his remarkable rise in the football world.
According to reports from Cadena COPE, the 19-year-old football sensation has arranged this private trip independently, distinct from the official travel plans organized by Barcelona as a club. Yamal’s flights are scheduled to depart early on the morning of October 26th, allowing him and his family to attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony on the very same day. Sources close to the 2026 World Cup winner’s family indicate that significant celebrations are being planned in London should the young Spaniard emerge victorious.
This year marks a pivotal moment for Yamal. While he is considered a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or, he experienced disappointment in the previous year’s ceremony. In 2025, after preparing for a family gathering in Paris similar to the current arrangements, the award ultimately went to Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele.
Today, Lamine Yamal stands as one of the most prominent young players in global football, and his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or are widely considered high. His instrumental role in helping Barcelona secure the La Liga title and his contributions to Spain’s triumph in the FIFA World Cup 2026 have significantly bolstered his candidacy. Furthermore, the 19-year-old is also expected to clinch the Young Player of the Year award, known as the Kopa Trophy, for an unprecedented third consecutive time, facing competition from his Spanish national teammate Pau Cubarsi.
Barcelona is sending a considerable delegation to this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony, spearheaded by club president Joan Laporta. A large number of Barcelona players, many of whom have also received nominations for various Ballon d’Or categories, are expected to be in attendance, reflecting the club’s successful season.
