Malaysian footballer Faisal Halim, who suffered an acid attack on May 5, 2024, is now facing a divorce request from his wife. Proceedings have commenced in Klang Syariah Court, Malaysia.
Halim’s wife’s divorce application was recognized by lawyers Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Puteri Ummm Kartini Abd Latiff, who represent her in the process that began on September 2.
According to lawyer Akberdin, the application falls under Article 47 of Islamic family law, which covers divorce. He also noted that the divorce announcement was made outside of court, prompting the legal team to propose that this issue be resolved under Article 57 of the same rules, which penalizes such announcements.
Faisal Halim, a player for Selangor FC and a top goal scorer for Malaysia in the Asian Cup, was attacked at a mall. Following the incident, he was suspended by Selangor FC for a period, incurring a $10,000 monthly pay deduction due to the severe burns on his face and body.
He is currently recovering from his injuries in the hospital and is expected to return to professional football with Selangor once fully healed.
