Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has expressed strong confidence that the club is progressing positively, even following a recent Premier League defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford in the new 2025-26 season.
The Brazilian international, a consistent starter under manager Ruben Amorim, has been in commendable form, particularly in his defensive midfield role, where he has been instrumental in creating numerous promising plays. While Manchester United had a challenging start last season, losing three of their opening six league matches, their performance against Arsenal, despite the loss, showcased encouraging signs of improved form and a high level of competitiveness from the Red Devils.
During the match, Arsenal opened the scoring in the 13th minute, capitalizing on a regrettable error from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, with Gabriel contributing to the goal. However, Manchester United’s statistical output painted a picture of dominance, recording 22 shots compared to Arsenal’s nine, with seven of those shots on target. Only the heroics of goalkeeper David Raya, along with several attempts hitting the woodwork, prevented United from finding the back of the net. The Red Devils also maintained significant possession, controlling the ball for 61% of the match, compared to Arsenal’s 39%, showcasing their command over the flow of play.
Casemiro openly acknowledges manager Amorim’s tactical vision, believing it has the potential to steer the team towards significant improvement after a challenging previous season. The former Real Madrid midfielder articulated the team’s high expectations and hopes for the club to regain the success reminiscent of its storied past generations.
“Manchester United always strive for success,” the 33-year-old midfielder stated. “While I don’t want to suggest that defeat is acceptable, we are a club that always aims to win. I believe we showed good intent in that game; we played very well. However, we also need victories. We are now on what I believe is the right path.”
Casemiro joined Manchester United in 2022 in a significant transfer valued at £70 million (approximately $94 million) and has since made around 126 appearances across all competitions for the club.
