Liverpool and Newcastle Agree UK Record £125m Isak Transfer

According to reports from BBC and Sky Sports, Liverpool and Newcastle have reached an agreement on a record-breaking £125 million (US $169 million) transfer fee for Swedish striker Alexander Isak. The deal, set for September 1, 2025, will see Isak move to Anfield, making it the most expensive transfer in British football history.

Isak is expected to undergo a medical examination on Monday before finalizing a six-year contract with Liverpool for the current English Premier League season.

This agreement follows Liverpool’s earlier offer of £110 million (US $148 million) in August, which Newcastle rejected.

The 1.92-meter tall, 25-year-old striker will become the most expensive player in English football history. This transfer surpasses the record set in 2023 when Chelsea acquired Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for £106.8 million (US $144 million).

Isak previously joined Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in 2022 for a club-record fee of £63 million (US $85 million). In 109 matches, Isak significantly contributed to Newcastle’s success, including scoring in a 2-1 win over Liverpool. He also played a key role in the team winning the EFL Cup in the 2024-25 season and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
