Garnacho Becomes Man Utd’s 4th Most Expensive Sale

Manchester United has agreed to sell midfielder Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for $54 million. The Argentine midfielder, 21, now ranks as the Red Devils’ fourth most expensive sale in history. His transfer fee trails only those of Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, and Angel Di Maria. Manchester United previously sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid for $107 million, Lukaku to Inter Milan for $101 million, and Di Maria to PSG for $60 million.

Garnacho, who made 93 Premier League appearances for Man Utd, is among five players reportedly seeking to leave Old Trafford this season, alongside Marcus Rashford, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho. While Garnacho moves to Chelsea, Marcus Rashford is reportedly headed to Barcelona this July. General Manager Ruben Amorim reportedly does not require these five players for his rebuilding campaign, having already acquired Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.

Following Garnacho’s acquisition, Chelsea released striker Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan for $43 million. In the 2025-26 transfer period, Chelsea has spent a total of $354 million on players to strengthen their squad, aiming to secure a UEFA Champions League spot.
