The Cambodian government has received a significant boost for its athletic development programs, as the Chinese government has officially approved a comprehensive request for support. This initiative will see approximately 150 Cambodian athletes, representing 10 different sports disciplines, travel to China for a three-month intensive training program scheduled for 2026.
This positive development was confirmed by Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC). While the specific commencement date for the training remains pending, awaiting final confirmation from the Chinese side, the commitment to the three-month program is firm.
The diverse group of athletes will undergo specialized training in key sports, including wrestling, weightlifting, aerobics, swimming, and Wushu, along with five other unnamed disciplines. Beyond this collaboration with China, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia is actively pursuing further international training opportunities. Plans are in motion to send athletes to South Korea for Taekwondo, to Japan for Karate, and to the United States, all as part of their strategic preparations for upcoming Olympic Games.
