Danielle Vos, who plays for Kitchee in Hong Kong, has criticized the Hong Kong Football Federation (HKFA) after her team’s training session was canceled to accommodate Al Nassr. The Saudi Arabian club, featuring 40-year-old Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo, is in Hong Kong to compete in the Saudi Super Cup.
Vos, a defender, expressed her anger on social media. She referenced the HKFA’s decision to hand over their booked training grounds to Al Nassr as a source of ‘many disappointments.’ Vos called the situation ‘an over and again shame!’ after her team missed multiple training sessions. She further criticized the federation, stating, ‘The federation already has a previously supported project that does not support women’s soccer tournament in Hong Kong. Last week, we booked the court for training for the AFC Women’s Champions League, but the federation told us they canceled it to switch to Al Nassr.’
Kitchee typically trains on artificial grass pitches. However, with an AFC Women’s Champions League Group Stage match against the Crown team in Cambodia on August 28 approaching, the team needed to adapt to natural grass. This required Vos and the Kitchee team to train on a standard natural grass pitch before traveling to Cambodia, and later to India for a match against East Bengal.
Hong Kong is currently hosting the 2025 Saudi Super Cup, a pre-season tournament for the Saudi Pro League. The four participating Saudi Arabian clubs include Al Nassr (featuring Ronaldo), Al Ittihad, Al Qadisiyah, and Al Ahli.
