EPL Spending Soars to $4.18 Billion, Outspending Europe’s Top Four Leagues Combined

The 20 Premier League clubs have collectively spent $4.18 billion during the first player transfer window of the 2025-26 season. This figure, accumulated over the last year, surpasses the combined spending of clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s La Liga, France’s Ligue 1, and Italy’s Serie A.

On September 1, Deadline Day for the transfer market, Liverpool spent $176 million to acquire Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. This transaction contributed to the $3.69 billion spent on player transactions, with the total reaching $4.18 billion since the window opened.

In contrast to this season’s massive outlay, Premier League clubs spent significantly less in the previous season’s first transfer market, totaling only $265,000. The current $4.18 billion expenditure by EPL clubs collectively exceeds the spending of clubs in Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s La Liga, France’s Ligue 1, and Italy’s Serie A combined.

Among the 20 English clubs, Liverpool leads spending with $562 million, followed by Chelsea at $385 million, and Arsenal at $344 million. Newcastle United ranks fourth with $338 million, while Manchester United is fifth with $292 million. Fulham recorded the lowest spending at $46 million.
