FIFA Rankings December 2025: Spain Retains World No. 1, Cambodia Holds Steady at 179th

The latest FIFA World Rankings for December 2025 confirm Spain’s unwavering dominance in international football, as the European powerhouse maintained its coveted number one position globally. This marks the fourth consecutive month that Spain has held the top spot, a streak beginning in July. Meanwhile, the Cambodian national football team also held its ground, retaining the 179th rank for the third successive month as the year concludes.

Globally, the top ten nations saw a familiar lineup following Spain. Argentina remained firmly in second place, with France securing the third position. England held onto fourth, ahead of Brazil at fifth and Portugal at sixth. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia rounded out the top ten, occupying seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth places respectively, showcasing consistency among the world’s elite footballing countries.

In the Asian football landscape, Japan continued to lead the continental charge, ranked 18th worldwide. Iran followed closely in 20th place, with South Korea just behind them at 22nd, cementing their status as the continent’s strongest teams.

Within Southeast Asia, while Cambodia maintained its 179th rank, there were notable movements among other nations. Vietnam experienced a positive shift, climbing three places to reach 107th globally. Singapore also saw an improvement, moving up from 151st to 148th, while Brunei advanced one spot to 188th. These gains, however, were not universal across the region.

Several Southeast Asian teams experienced drops in the rankings. Malaysia saw a significant decline of five points, falling from 116th to 121st. Laos also slipped three places to 190th, and Thailand moved down one position to 96th. Other nations, including Indonesia (122nd), the Philippines (136th), and Myanmar (163rd), saw their rankings remain stagnant for the December period. East Timor held steady at 198th, positioning them at the bottom of the eleven Southeast Asian teams. The Cambodian team’s consistent ranking comes after playing only one international friendly match in November, indicating a stable performance despite limited recent competitive action.
