Fluminense’s Fabio Breaks Peter Shilton’s All-Time Appearance Record

Fluminense goalkeeper Fabio has officially broken Peter Shilton’s long-standing record for the most career professional matches, reaching an astounding 1,391 appearances. The 44-year-old Brazilian achieved this milestone during Fluminense’s 2-1 victory over America de Cali in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana Round of 16.

Fabio’s 28-year career includes stints at Unian Bandeirante (30 games), Vasco da Gama (150 games), Cruzeiro (976 games), and Fluminense (235 games). He joined Fluminense in 2022 from Cruzeiro.

During his time with Fluminense, Fabio has been a key contributor to significant victories, including the Recopa Sudamericana, Copa Libertadores, Taca Guanabara, and two Campeonato Carioca titles. The club also secured a top-four ranking for the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States.

The previous record was held by English legend Peter Shilton, who made 1,390 appearances according to Guinness World Records, though Shilton himself claimed 1,387. Shilton’s illustrious career spanned from 1966 to 1997.
