Liverpool Completes Record $170M Alexander Isak Transfer from Newcastle

Liverpool has completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a record-breaking £125 million ($170 million) deal, making him the most expensive transfer in UK history.

According to a September 1 BBC report, the 25-year-old Swedish international striker successfully completed his medical examination at Anfield and signed a six-year contract, committing him to the club until 2031.

Newcastle acquired Isak from Real Sociedad in 2022. During his three seasons at St James’ Park, Isak delivered outstanding performances, notably helping Eddie Howe’s side secure a UEFA Champions League spot last season.

For the 2025-26 season, Liverpool has also made significant investments elsewhere. The club secured midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for $135 million, alongside Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Giovanni Leoni, with these deals totaling $562 million. British defender Marc Guehi is also a reported target, with negotiations underway with Crystal Palace.

To offset these major acquisitions, the reigning Premier League champions have sold several players, including Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tyler Morton, and Ben Doak, recouping approximately $257 million.
