The game took place at Blundell Park on August 27.
Amorim acknowledged the team’s failure and stated he viewed the contest as a fair match. This early exit means United’s aspirations for a domestic trophy this season now primarily depend on the FA Cup, as the Premier League title race is highly competitive.
Other top-tier clubs also eliminated in the EFL Cup second round included West Ham United, Bournemouth, and Sunderland.
