Ronaldo Deepens Football Involvement with Strategic 25% Investment in Spain’s UD Almeria

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has significantly expanded his investment portfolio, acquiring a 25% stake in Spanish football club UD Almeria. The deal sees the five-time Ballon d’Or winner invest in a team currently competing in Spain’s second-tier league, with Ronaldo’s representatives citing substantial future growth opportunities as the primary motivator behind the move.

The acquisition of shares in UD Almeria was conducted through CR7 Sports, the Portuguese captain’s personal investment vehicle. While the exact financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, it is understood to be a strategic component of Ronaldo’s broader, long-term investment vision within the global football landscape.

Currently playing as a striker for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, Ronaldo has long harbored aspirations beyond his illustrious playing career. He expressed this sentiment, stating, “I have always had the ambition to contribute to football beyond just playing on the pitch.” This investment aligns with his vision to actively support and lead a club’s long-term development plans, a role he eagerly anticipates embracing alongside the entire UD Almeria team.

UD Almeria is recognized for its solid development infrastructure and promising potential for future expansion. The club is notably under the ownership of a group of Saudi investors, a factor that likely played a role in Ronaldo’s decision to invest, given his current ties to the region. This venture also echoes Ronaldo’s previously stated desire to eventually own a football club after his playing days conclude.

Juan Francesc Ferrer, the coach of UD Almeria, welcomed Ronaldo’s involvement, describing it as “shocking and exciting news” for the club and its dedicated fanbase throughout Almeria.

At 41 years old, Ronaldo remains a formidable force in football. He recently renewed his contract with Al Nassr until 2027, a deal reportedly worth a staggering $675 million. The legendary striker is also currently preparing to represent the Portuguese national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which would mark his record sixth appearance in the prestigious tournament. Ronaldo continues to hold the record as the highest goal scorer in international football history.
