Ruben Amorim, manager of Manchester United, has unequivocally stated that he continues to receive the full backing of the club’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, for his role at the helm of the team. The 40-year-old Portuguese coach also firmly denied reports of significant internal issues following recent meetings with club leadership at the Carrington training complex.
Amorim’s position has reportedly come under increased scrutiny from sections of the Manchester United fanbase. This follows a challenging run of four winless games, which also saw the team exit a cup competition earlier than anticipated.
Speculation mounted in various media outlets regarding the ownership’s confidence in Amorim, particularly in the lead-up to a crucial Premier League fixture against Chelsea at Old Trafford. Some reports even suggested Amorim was facing major problems after his recent discussions with the club’s hierarchy.
However, addressing journalists at a pre-match press conference ahead of the Chelsea encounter, Amorim reaffirmed that he maintains the complete trust and support of the club’s leaders, dismissing any notion of a crisis. He notably revealed that Ratcliffe “has provided a new contract for me,” indicating a strong vote of confidence from the ownership.
He further elaborated on the nature of his discussions, describing them as entirely routine. “It’s just normal,” Amorim explained. “They just came to show their support for me and to discuss the long-term team development plan. The conversations were typical, including a chat with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, the director of football, to review the team’s training data.”
This visit by Ratcliffe and the club’s leadership group to the training ground came after Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat against rivals Manchester City. Their presence also coincided with the team’s preparations for the upcoming match against Chelsea, scheduled for September 20.
Looking ahead to the clash with Chelsea, the 40-year-old manager confirmed positive news regarding player availability. Key players Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount are expected to make their return to the squad, having successfully recovered from their respective injuries.
Currently, after the initial four matches of the Premier League season, the Red Devils find themselves in 14th position in the league table. Their opponents, Chelsea, are presently placed 5th.
