Son Scores First LAFC Goal in 1-1 Draw vs. FC Dallas

South Korean striker Son Heung-min scored his inaugural goal for Los Angeles FC (LAFC) in a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas on August 24. Son, 33, opened the scoring for LAFC in the 6th minute with a display of individual skill. However, FC Dallas quickly equalized in the 13th minute, and the match concluded in a draw. This milestone goal occurred in Son’s third appearance for LAFC following his record-breaking $27 million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. His next match is scheduled for August 31 against San Diego FC.

Wearing the number 7 shirt, Son’s arrival has ignited fan excitement, particularly in the United States. LAFC CEO John Thorrington reported that in Son’s first week, his number 7 jersey sales virtually surpassed those of superstars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry. Individual jerseys were also reportedly selling at premium prices, ranging from $300 to $1,500.

Before joining LAFC, Son spent a decade at Tottenham Hotspur, where in his final season, he helped the club secure the Europa League – their first European title in over 30 years and their first trophy in 17 years since 2008.
