NOCC’s ‘Sports for All’ Initiative Inspires Kep Youth to Embrace Active Lifestyles

Mr. Buy Sophorn, an advisor to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), has expressed profound optimism regarding the future of sports participation among students and young people residing in Kep province. This positive outlook follows the successful conclusion of the ‘Sports for All’ forum, which was held on November 28, bringing together over 500 students from across Kep province.

The forum provided a crucial platform for these young participants to gain a deeper understanding of sports and to engage directly in various physical activities and exercises. Mr. Sophorn highlighted his belief that such initiatives are vital in encouraging youth to embrace sports as a regular and enjoyable part of their lives. He emphasized that continuing to play sports and exercise, aligned with individual interests, is essential for strengthening personal health and overall well-being in daily life. Furthermore, he appealed to citizens and other young individuals to actively participate in at least one sport, seeing it as a fundamental means to enhance their welfare and contribute positively to society.

The NOCC advisor confirmed that the second day of the ‘Sports for All’ forum, specifically dedicated to hands-on sports activities and exercise, saw an impressive turnout of over 500 students. This number represented a significant increase, more than doubling the attendance from the first day on November 27, which had involved over 200 students focusing on learning about the knowledge and intrinsic values of Olympism.

During the practical sessions on the second day, playing sports and engaging in exercise became a central and interactive lesson for the students. They enthusiastically divided into groups to participate in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball, and notably, the traditional national sport of tug-of-war. These vibrant activities were met with widespread enthusiasm and joy, creating memorable experiences for the students and fostering a strong desire among them to continue their involvement in sports in the future.

It is worth noting that the ‘Sports for All’ forum was meticulously organized by the NOCC, with Mr. Buy Sophorn himself actively participating to share his extensive knowledge and experience in Olympic sports. The NOCC collaborated directly with the Kep Provincial Department of Education to host this valuable and impactful forum for the youth of the region. This important awareness program, aimed at highlighting the significance of sports for everyone, received essential support and funding from Olympic Solidarity.
