Arsenal have officially been crowned champions of the English Premier League (Premier League) for the 2025-26 season, marking a historic triumph after a thrilling campaign. The Gunners secured the coveted trophy by defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 in their season-closing encounter on the evening of May 24th.
Meanwhile, the final day of the season also saw dramatic developments in the relegation battle. Tottenham Hotspur narrowly avoided the drop to the second tier, while their victory sealed West Ham United’s fate, sending them down to English football’s second division for the first time in 14 years, despite their own efforts to stay up. Elsewhere, a significant chapter closed in English football with Pep Guardiola announcing his departure from Manchester City, and Mohamed Salah, alongside Andrew Robertson, parting ways with Liverpool and the Premier League.
Arsenal’s title-clinching victory over Crystal Palace, a 2-1 win on the evening of May 24th at Selhurst Park, was a momentous occasion. Under the astute leadership of manager Mikel Arteta, the team finally lifted the Premier League trophy, bringing an end to a 22-year wait since their last league title in 2004. This long-awaited success was met with immense excitement and celebration among players, staff, and loyal supporters who packed Selhurst Park.
The North London club, affectionately known as the Gunners, concluded the season as champions with a total of 85 points. This put them a commanding seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City and an impressive 14 points ahead of Manchester United, who finished in third place. In their respective final matches, Manchester City suffered a defeat against Aston Villa, while Manchester United ended their season on a high note by overcoming Brighton & Hove Albion. The Premier League title is also set to bring a significant financial boost to Arsenal, with estimated prize money totaling approximately 200 million euros (269 million US dollars).
In the intense fight for survival, Tottenham Hotspur secured their Premier League status. A crucial goal from Joao Palhinha against Everton delivered a vital three points, allowing Spurs to retain their 17th position in the league table. This win proved to be the decisive blow for West Ham United, despite their own 3-0 victory against Leeds United. West Ham finished in 18th place with 39 points, just two points shy of Tottenham’s 41 points, leading to their relegation to the EFL Championship. They will join Burnley and Wolves in the second tier for the upcoming season.
The final day also marked the end of an illustrious era for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola, after a decade at the helm, announced his decision to step down as the club’s general manager. The 55-year-old Spaniard leaves behind an incredible legacy, having guided City to six Premier League titles and their historic first UEFA Champions League trophy during his 10 years in England. Supporters chanted their respect and gratitude, hailing him as a coach who consistently made history wherever he managed.
Similarly, Liverpool experienced a bittersweet farewell. The club’s players, coaching staff, and management collectively expressed their appreciation and respect for key players Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson, who are both set to depart from the team at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
