C.D. Eldense, a football club currently competing in Spain’s second-tier league, has reportedly announced that Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has reached an agreement to acquire the club. This significant development is anticipated to see the legendary forward become the new owner of Eldense in the near future. Messi, who is 39 years old, is understood to be purchasing a 100% stake in the club from its current ownership.
According to an announcement made by C.D. Eldense on September 9, the Inter Miami player has committed to taking control of the Spanish club. The agreement reportedly involves acquiring all 100% of the club’s shares from the Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., which presently holds ownership.
This potential acquisition would mark Eldense as the second football club under the ownership of the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner. Messi is also reported to have previously acquired UE Cornella, a club in Spain’s fifth-tier league, on April 16, 2026. UE Cornella is recognized for its strong focus on youth player development and its participation in established youth competitions within Spain. Notably, many talented youth players from Cornella have gone on to join the prestigious La Masia football academy of FC Barcelona in recent times.
Beyond his investments in Spanish football clubs like Eldense and UE Cornella, the Argentine football icon also holds a stake in Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer club where he currently plays professionally.
Spanish media outlets have widely reported that the acquisition of C.D. Eldense by the former Paris Saint-Germain player is anticipated to be finalized within the coming days. C.D. Eldense itself has confirmed that the transfer of ownership is currently in progress, alongside the completion of several legal prerequisites. However, the club, which competes in the Spanish second division, has not yet been able to specify a definitive date for the ownership transfer.
Presently, C.D. Eldense occupies the 20th position in Spain’s second-tier league. The club came under the management of the Colombian investment firm in October 2025. Over the past year, Eldense has successfully ascended to compete in the second division after progressing through Spain’s national league competitions.
