Cambodia is preparing to send a robust delegation of 106 athletes to compete across 14 sports at the highly anticipated 20th Asian Games. This prestigious multi-sport event is scheduled to take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, running from September 19 to October 4.
The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) holds significant expectations for specific disciplines. Mr. Watt Chamroeun, Secretary General of the NOCC, has publicly expressed confidence in the medal-winning potential of Cambodian athletes in Karate, Triathlon, Jujitsu, and E-sports for the 2026 Games.
These particular sports have been identified by the NOCC due to the high technical proficiency demonstrated by Cambodian athletes and their commendable results in previous regional competitions. This strong performance history suggests they possess the capability to contend for medals at the Asian level.
Out of the 14 sports selected to represent Cambodia at the event, the NOCC confirms that only those with the greatest potential and highest technical standards were chosen. Mr. Chamroeun specifically highlighted Triathlon, Karate, Jujitsu, and E-sports as the disciplines with the most promising opportunities to secure medals.
Beyond the pursuit of medals, some Cambodian athletes will also be competing for crucial qualification spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Sports slated for this Olympic pathway include Swimming, Triathlon, Karate, Athletics, Boxing, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.
Cambodia’s participation in the Asian Games dates back to its inaugural entry in 1951, marking 75 years of continuous involvement in the prestigious continental event. Over this extensive period, the nation has accumulated a total of 10 medals, comprising 3 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze.
